A tidal project in Scottish waters just generated enough electricity to power nearly 4,000 homes

In a "remarkable feat of engineering," E.ON acquired offshore wind turbines to power nearly 4,000 homes in Cumbernauld, an area outside of Glasgow that has experienced the most steady and windy winds of all the north Atlantic countries in recent years.
"The Cumbernauld Trust must be enormously relieved that they have been afforded such a key part in one of the most exceptional developments in the world," E.ON's CEO, Sveinung Svarte, said.
The wind farm, to be built by the company's wind turbine and installation services business, Eon Yauri, was designed to generate electricity to power more than 4,000 homes. However, it is only functioning for now, as wind supply to Scotland remains low thanks to lower power prices than in Europe.
"This project reflects our ambition to harness new and sustainable sources of renewable energy," Sakari Takanashi, of the E.ON Yauri project, said.
British and Scottish regulators have seen increased restrictions on companies' offshore wind turbine operations amid fears the expansion of offshore wind farms will increase electricity prices and force businesses to install renewables in their own buildings.
