Is ‎Forex ‎designed ‎for ‎short ‎term ‎or ‎long ‎term ‎trading?

If you are new to the Forex market, or heard about the options it allows to make money, then the question is a logical one - is forex design for long term or short term trading?

Its a more complex answer than you'd think...

First - most trading brokers are market makers, which means that they take the opposite position on the trading platform to the one you open as a trader.

Second - depends on the brokerage, most exchanges has multiple comissions on them, which one of them is swap. A comission for keeping your position open overnight.

Third - opposing to the perspective you could have gotten from the previous point, many brokerages choose to supply accounts with no swap. Why? To enable the trader to keep his money on the platform more, and trade with it. (Going back to point one).

In essence, the more knowledgable you are, and know how to trade and play on the market trends, the more you can capitalize from short term trading on forex. Which also means, more spread comissions to the brokers. That is the aim. And the design.
Which answer the title question.

But - if you are trading with a broker that offers no swap comission and also low on other types of comissions, essentially you can just keep your position open in the hope that the trend will change, if you are losing, and wait until the price of the position you chose will reflect a profit for you. And then to close that pisition.

It doesnt change the "design", but it does bring an interesting element for another type of trading.
